Auras, Crystals, Psychics etc.

My Personal Thought Processes...

Firstly, so that people understand where the author (myself) is coming from.  I have always had a logical approach to problems, with a conservative Christian upbringing and training as a metalwork tradesman (Fitter), then Associate Engineer, followed by an Applied Science Degree.  Fairly straight down the line logic, and hold Christian beliefs and values.  As a Hypnotherapist, I had always been confused by some phenomenon that I witnessed.  Firstly, I had always considered auras and others things to be fanciful, and crystals and such to be pretty rocks and nothing more. The journey begins ...

    Auras

My first paradigm shift was during an open eye trance exercise during some hypnosis training.  It was fairly straight forward, with the exception of seeing a line of purple light over a good friends shoulder.  Immediately, I went into an analytical mode, thinking that the purple must be on the wall behind, and would most likely be from a point light source, diffracted through some prismatic glass.  In analyzing the room and surrounding area, there was none of these things.  No windows that could provide diffraction, no purple light sources, no light accessible to that area apart from the fluorescent overhead lighting; and this had no means of producing the observed light.  Then it dawned upon me, it was not behind him, it was actually over his shoulder.  This came as a surprise as they were not part of my beliefs, and certainly had not come up in conversation or thoughts.  This threw me into utter confusion with this new realization and implications which conflicted with the rigidity of my (so-called) educated thought processes.  Time for a review of personal and professional ignorance and arrogance.  Auras ?  Are they real, is this what I am seeing?  It appears to be the case, or something so similar to the general descriptions that now it is necessary to rethink basic beliefs and the possibilities.  It certainly doesn’t conflict with my Christian beliefs, but it challenges my preconceived ideas of how the world actually works.

    Discernment?

My next big shift came when working with another hypnotherapist’s wife.  As it is unwise to work with those close to you, I helped his wife, and he helped my girlfriend of the time.  As we were working, I went into a light trance to assist the working rapport and effectiveness of the work.

At this point I would like to note a phenomenon that happens regularly to me.  As I work from a light trance state, I often observe peoples faces change.  Sometimes it is similar, often it is a different age and/or sex.  I assumed that this was simply a trick of the eye and mind due to prolonged viewing, retina post-image alteration or perhaps some other physiological or psychological cause.  It came as a surprise at times, but not beyond acceptance of a rational explanation, that was just out of my grasp.

This time was different.  Her face changed, her features completely dissolved at times, her body also appeared to be in flux.  It shimmered, seeming to fill the chair (a papadom ??? chair), and contorted different ways, appearing to have different types of limbs, tentacles and whatnot.  I continued with the work despite a HUGE urge to just run like hell.  I knew that with myself out of the trance, appearance was normal, so it was likely that what I was seeing was not harmful to me (fingers crossed).

At the end of the session, I mentioned nothing of what I saw to her or my friend.  I wanted time to think it over myself, and whilst I wanted to talk to my friend about what I saw, there was no opportunity without his wife present.  We said goodbye and went out separate ways for the time.

About four months later, I was visiting my family in Mackay where my friend was practicing at the time.  We all met (with my family as well) for lunch at the Pizza Hut.  Throughout the meal I was busting to consult with my friend in case he had experienced anything similar, but kept quiet for confidentiality reasons.  As we were leaving, I took him aside and told him what I had witnessed, and waited for what I expected to be laughter or stupid looks.  What I got was completely unexpected.  My friend was quite pleased and said ,”Cool, didn’t you know, she’s a shapeshifter”.  This was connected with her meditative practices with Shamanism (American Indian).  This challenged my thinking about the nature of what I was seeing.

It now appeared to be more than just eye tricks, and I now had more to consider.  Were the faces changing for a reason?  Is there some spiritual connection, what about the possibility of reincarnation? That was tried experimentally upon me and did not work.  Yet, when I have used it therapeutically for people, it worked like a treat (mostly).  Oh bugger, not again!  Forcing me to think.

Does this conflict with my system of religious beliefs?  No, just because I don’t understand something, doesn’t mean it conflicts.  Simply saying that “God works in mysterious ways” doesn’t really cut it, but nothing in the bible that I can find contradicts what I witnessed.  Other religious beliefs may contain some explanation, but it still doesn’t make it the correct explanation. Maybe the rules are not fully explained in the bible.  One possible biblical explanation is the gift of discernment.  Some gift!  Where are the bloody instructions?  Still, the learning curve continues, and the logical mind is pried open further.

    Crystals

The next was rather simple.  Two good and trusted friends of mine, a husband and wife team, are crystal healers.  I had always dismissed this as simply placebo effect within the fringe element of alternate therapies.  If my friends did it however, I felt that perhaps there was a possibility of benefit.  At a time in my life that was particularly distressing, I was in real need of help as I felt that I was close to losing the plot.  I went to see them and they did some work on me.

Whilst I was laying on their bench, finding it quietly humorous to be in the situation with crystals being place on and around me, and my friend talking to me, I was quite surprised.  My friend was taking me through a guided meditation whilst working, and within my mind I was doing an analysis and critique of what he was saying.  I realized that I was going into quite a good trance that few other professional Hypnotists would achieve with my state of mind.  Still monitoring what was being said, I went with it.  At the end, I felt like a million bucks and couldn’t figure out why.

My analysis of the language patterns was that there were no relevant language marking, hidden double binds, hidden commands or hypnotic deepening techniques.  The metaphors were very simple and rapport techniques were very basic and probably unintentional.  What the ??  How the hell did it work so well?  Must be more to it than this natural skeptic comprehends.  Damn learning curve!

    Psychic Mediums

Always the sceptic, I have always approached all Psychics with a healthy investigative cynicism. This is not as to whether people can be psychic, but rather whether the individual is psychic, fraudulent, deluded, insane, or the subject of spiritual misleading. Too often, individuals have a desire to be special or unique in the world, and can create this without being tested for validity. On-line web courses that advertise that state that "If you think that you may be psychic, then you probably ARE". Well, thinking that I am a Paw Paw tree, doesn't tend to make me one, even if on certain days there are common experiences. A common problem is that ego tends to get in the way.

Of the people that I truly believe as being psychic, they have been able to tell me specific things that no observer, or skilled cold reader would be able to determine. Sometimes I have requested the information, other times, it has been volunteered to me regardless of whether I wanted the information or not. In many circles, this would be considered rude, or abit ignorant. Often, wisdom is needed to know what to say, or how to skillfully deflect a question where the answer may prove harmful. Truth is important, knowing when to just plain shut-up is even more so. Those who balance this fine line, and treat people with love and respect hold a warm place in my heart. There are three individuals who hold privileged position. All have achieved this through hardship, and are very real individuals. You will find a couple of them on the Namaste' website.

There is a question of whether you can create or train a psychic. My personal belief (and $1.50 gets me a can of coke), is that there is two aspects of the ability, like many other skills, such as hypnosis, trades etc. Firstly, a natural ability or talent needs to exist. This is a true pre-wiring of the brain or mind, that may lay dormant and unknown. Secondly, the training, which can be accidental and/or intention to use those inherent skills. There is a Spanish saying which goes, " Don't attempt to teach a pig to sing, you will get no-where, and it will only annoy the pig"; by this I mean that people may be deluded in their abilities of perception, particularly where ego or opinion may be challenged. Training should be used primarily as a tool to gauge their abilities, and then objectively test those abilities to ensure quantitative and qualitative results. This may trim egos somewhat. One unusual, but expected method of training of a psychic medium seems to have actually been done by spirits. When you look at this objectively, I guess it makes good sense. Would cost a lot less as well. Thank god they don't do sex education. This person has gotten persistently good results (in medium-ship), and uses this to put people's minds at ease about their dead loved one's, assisting closure where many other methods would fail.

Once again, just because I can not explain thing's, doesn't mean that it doesn't work. (Double negatives ??) Use caution in selecting a medium, and ensure that you are there for the right reason, not just entertainment.
