Childbirth

Pain Management

The pain is largely unnecessary, and can be minimised. Rarely is it all blocked, but the majority can be, and the mum can enjoy the experience.

Time distortion

Times of pain to appear to be much less, and the time of relaxation can appear to be more that the actual time. Time perception is easily altered in people. We experience this naturally, and can apply the same skill to work for us.

Memory Correction for Best Expectations

We tend to live up-to, or down-to, the expectations that we take on from others. If we believe that we are going to have the worst experience of our lives, and are going to scream the place down, then we do. If however, we know that the experience is one where the body knows what to do, and we can quickly and easily have a baby, then we tend to do so. Our expectations tend to guide the experience and outcome. This can particularly between cultures where the expectation are in stark contrast.

By setting the best expectations, and mentally immunising people from stupid or harmful suggestions from others, the experience can be a pleasure (or at least OK)

Pliable Body

Do you warm up before a run - hell yeah. Do professional sportspeople prepare their bodies and minds by mentally rehearsing before events - of course. My oath. They do heaps of mental rehearsal, otherwise they wouldn’t be leaders in their fields.

What about expectant mothers?

Who the hell would go into a marathon without preparation. Well, actually, that would be most mothers.

OK, here’s the deal. Leading up to going into labor, the mum-to-be practises the ideal birth. Their breathing, feelings, actions, and outcomes. This is just like what top level athletes do, and they do so for a reason. The body and the brain doesn’t pick between real or imagined events. It is much the same. The rehearsal allows the body to act as it needs to, including dilation, directed contractions, expulsion, and recovery.
